Refrigerator Buying Guide

With so many options of refrigerators in the market, how do you choose the right one for your kitchen?

Below are some important points to consider 👇⁣⁣

Size

Before buying a new fridge, you should know the measurements such as Height and Width of where the refrigerator will be installed. It would help if you considered the distance between nearby islands and how much room is left after the fridge doors are open. It's also important to know the depth, mainly if you'd like to purchase a counter-depth refrigerator.

Style

French Door Refrigerators

The standard french door has 2 doors and a bottom freezer. However, you can also find a 4-5 door option which is best if you need more storage space. French door refrigerators are also generally considered a higher-end choice because they typically have more features.

Side-by-Side Refrigerators

A Side-by-Side Refrigerator has the freezer on the left door and the fridge on the right. This style is best for a kitchen with limited space since the narrow doors do not require as much space to open.

Top- Freezer and Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators

Top-freezer refrigerators have the freezer on top and a single door refrigerator on bottom. The Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators are the opposite since they have a refrigerator on top and a freezer drawer below. Both of these styles have a smaller size and not as many features as the other style of fridges. These are best for smaller spaces and for places without a water hookup since they generally do not have a water or ice dispenser.

Features

What kind of features would you like or need? These are features such as:

  • Water & Ice Dispenser
  • Adjustable Gallon Door Bins
  • Adjustable Glass Shelves
  • Infinity Slide Shelf to accommodate tall items
  • Deli Drawer

Many newer fridges even have Wi-Fi connectivity and a touch screen.

Color

If you'd like your fridge to combine with the other appliances in your kitchen, you should consider the color of your stove, microwave, and dishwasher when choosing a refrigerator. Also, refrigerators vary from black, white, and different hues of stainless steel, and many newer fridges are made of fingerprint-resistant stainless steel that makes them easier to clean.

Storage and capacity

The capacity of a refrigerator is measured in cubic feet (cu. ft.) and it shows how much food can be stored inside the fridge or freezer. For this, you should consider your food-buying habits and how many people are in your household because the bigger the cubic feet, the more storage you will have. Also, if you buy a lot of frozen food, you'll need more freezer space. However, if you buy more fresh food, you will need more space in your fridge.

Energy

Sometimes the bigger fridge means a bigger energy bill, so you should consider the extra space if you're not going to use it. It's also important to check out if the fridge is ENERGY STAR® Certified, which means they are energy efficient and can save you money.
